Bon Apetit!During the Messianic era, food will be infused with a supernatural ability to satiate. Rav Yitzchok Zilberstein shlita poses the following question: What will be the minimum size of food for which one would be liable for hotzaah during that long awaited era? Nowadays, the amount is measured as the size of a Grogeres, (a dried fig), because people only attach importance from this quantity and up, but in future days we will attach importance to scraps of food too. Now, our Gemara mentions that Abba Shaul said that the prescribed amount of Shtei Halechem (Shavuos offering of 2 loaves) and the weekly showbread, that must be taken out in order to be liable is the volume of a dried fig. Why did Abba Shaul not add other holy foods to his list, for example the Chatas of Shelamim offerings? Rav Eliashiv shlita, cites a Tosefta which relates that during the life time of Shimon HaTzaddik, a miracle occurred to the showbreads, that all the Cohanim who were serving in the Beis HaMikdash during a festival could partake thereof and feel satisfied. Some Cohanim even left over their portion until a later meal. The Tosefta says that no one received more than a kezayis size of bread. The volume of a single kezayis is smaller than that of a Grogeres. One may have mistakenly thought that since Cohanim attach importance to even a kezayis size of showbread on Shabbos, one will be liable. Therefore Abba Shaul informs us that this is in fact not true, but the minimum size is the volume of a Grogeres. Rav Zilberstein shlita concludes that since this measurement isn't connected to the importance that we attach to the food stuff, it can be presumed that this measurement is a tradition from Moshe Rabeinu. This Sinaic tradition is a statute, and ergo it will remain valid during the Messianic era. Please note that Halacha Lemaaseh should not be derived from this article.
