The Rambam writes that he who wants to be mekadesh himself in this world, must write a get (writ of divorce) to luxurious living, for just as fire and water cannot exist together in one place, so too ruchnius and gashmiyes diametrically appose each other. The Ten Tribes enjoyed life to its fullest and due to that, eventually lost their Torah life and indeed their very existence.
