IN LOVING MEMORY OF SARAH STELLA BAS YEHUDA MARCUS a.h. This Too Is G-d's Will…and we desecrated the Shabbos for her (a woman giving birth) Mishna (128b). The late Manchester Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Segal zt"l, fell ill one Shabbos, and an ambulance was called to transfer him to hospital. As he was getting into the ambulance and his family had gathered around the vehicle his daughter began to cry. He tried to calm her and reassured her that the condition of his health was in the hands of Heaven, but she told him that the cause of her tears was not his fragile condition but the fact that he was forced to desecrate the Shabbos. "Have you ever attended a Bris Milah on Shabbos?" He asked. "What a Simcha! The room is usually packed with humanity all enjoying the wonderful atmosphere 'Mazal Tov' wishes abound and tasty food is served. But the Milah itself is… chillul Shabbos! However since it is for this great mitzvah the Milah supersedes the Shabbos. Today too, my traveling in an ambulance is a MITZVA and there is no need to cry!"
